Can You Splice Into The Lock/Unlock Wires At The Tailgate When Installing The Pop & Lock Power Lock

Can the wiring that is suppose to run to cab of the truck to the lock/unlock wires just be ran to the tailgate if the tail gate has lock/unlock power feature?

You're just trying to get the lock/unlock signal so if you could splice into the wire(s) in a closer location to the tailgate when installing the Pop & Lock Power Lock Conversion Kit for Truck Caps and Hard Tonneau Covers # PAL9772 that would work as well.
