How Much Clearance is Required by ProSeries Cargo Carrier # 63153 for Use on 2011 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Thanks for the info on this carrier, I probably should have asked if this carrier will fit a 2011 Toyota 4runner, without the carrier rubbing the bumper of the 4runner?

One simple measurement will tell you if this ProSeries Cargo Carrier # 63153 will clear the back bumper of your 2011 Toyota 4Runner.

If you measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the side of your receiver tube to the rear-most part of the vehicle you will know how much clearance you need from a cargo carrier. This Highland carrier provides 5-1/2-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier. If your measurement is less than this then the carrier will clear your bumper. I have linked a video on this carrier for your reference.

If not you can choose another cargo carrier with the necessary clearance using the link provided. The link will show you all carriers that will fit a 2-inch hitch. You can choose from fixed or folding carriers and you can narrow the product results to those items that best suit your preferences by using the filters at the left-hand side of the page. For example, ProSeries offers their 31 x 47-inch steel carrier # PS1040100 that provides 12-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the carrier platform. Please refer to the linked photo.

No matter which carrier you choose you will want to keep in mind that your hitch receiver has a specific tongue weight capacity that cannot be exceeded. There should be a safety/warning sticker on the hitch that indicates its tongue weight rating (or you can check your 4Runner owners manual). The combined weight of your choice of carrier plus what you load into it cannot be more than this tongue weight. For example if your hitch has a 350-lb tongue weight capacity and you use the Highland carrier that weighs 50-lbs, then you can safely load up to 300-lbs of cargo.

I have included a link to a helpful article on cargo carriers that might be useful to you as you consider your options and preferences.
