How To Remove A Seized Up Hitch Pin Lock On A Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack
Question:
I have a Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F. I have had it for almost 5 years and it has worked well for me until just last month. I went to unlock the yellow retainer lock from the hitch pin long bolt with the key to begin the process of removing the bike rack from my 4Runner receiver hitch. I ed the key and turned it a quarter turn counter clockwise like I always do, except for this time the lock would NOT release from the threaded hitch pin bolt. After several attempts, I am thinking someone may have attempted to remove my rack the vehicle was parked in a public parking area for an extended period and jammed or broke the release pin mechanism inside the yellow lock. What can I do to remove the yellow lock given that it does not release as it should?

Expert Reply:
Since the lock itself is the issue the only way to really remove it would be to cut it off. You could try drilling out the lock to see it gets loose enough to remove from the hitch pin or you can take an angle grinder to the lock and cut it off. Either way you'll need a replacement so if you want another lock for your Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # SA4025F you'll need part # SA3022.
