Helpful Expert Reply:
According to Curt, their Class III Trailer Hitch, # 13086, will fit all models of the 1988 Toyota Pickup, so it will fit your base model short bed. I have attached the installation instructions for you to check out. If you will be doing the installation yourself, you may need to fabricate a 1/4 inch thick spacer block if your bumper brackets are on the inside of the truck frame. I have included the diagram from the installation instructions for the dimensions of the spacer.
If you need trailer wiring, I recommend the Universal Wiring Harness, # C59496. This kit comes with everything you will need to install a 4-way flat trailer connector. If you want to add a 7-way trailer connector, then I also recommend picking up our Universal 4-Way and 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. I have attached the installation instructions for these kits for you to check out as well as an installation video for the ETBC7 kit.
If you are also looking for a ball mount and hitch ball, it would be best to purchase them after the hitch is installed. You will want to make sure you choose a ball mount with the correct rise or drop to tow your trailer level. I have attached a help article that explains how to measure for the correct ball mount. If you would like to tell me the rise or drop you need and the weight capacity, I would be happy to make a ball mount and hitch ball recommendation.
