Can Ramp Springs Be Installed On Enclosed Trailer Rear Door To Replace Torsion Springs?

Question:

Okay, I am sick and tired of repairing the torsion cable system for the enclosed trailer we have. It seems every 6 months someone is running over the cable which means I have to order new and install. This is really the worst design IMHO. The torsion spring system should be standard by now on all enclosed trailers with ramps. I am thinking about retrofitting the springs onto the trailers and/or selling these trailers and getting one of the few out there that have this system. I know there will be some fabricating and welding but do you know of any examples of this being done? Thx.

While we have never installed the Ramp Springs Right # RS16933RH or Left # RS16933LH on an enclosed trailer door we have seen someone install them on a utility trailer. I have included an image below showing their setup You will need to add the bar for the springs to mount on as well as a strong surface for the end of the spring to act on for your enclosed door. This will protect the end of the spring from going through the door since it is most likely fiberglass where the spring would hit the door.
