Correct Yakima Roof Rack Fitment for a 2021 Honda Passport

Question:

I have Yakima Racks for my 2008 Buick Enclave. They attach by anchoring in the groove on the roof rack. The Passport seems to have the same type of rail and I was able secure my racks using the rails groove. The Enclave racks are flush with the roof. The Passport has about a 3/4 inch space between the roof and the rack. It appears the recommended racks are secured by the attaching around the rack rather than the groove. Should my groove based attachment work on the Passport? I mounted them to the Passport and they seemed as secure as they were on the Enclave.

To install a Yakima roof rack on your 2021 Honda Passport you need at least 50" JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 and the TimberLine Towers # Y33TR or the Yakima TimberLine FX Roof Rack # Y78UV that has ore or a clamp style connection as opposed to the straps.

If you don't have either of these setups then I can't recommend using an alternative setup even if you're able to get it to fit.

A while back we had someone fit a roof rack to a vehicle and while it technically "fit" and stayed put, it wasn't as secure as it should have been and the style hadn't been tested and confirmed as safe for carrying loads on the road by any of our roof rack manufacturers. I always go by the "better to be safe than sorry mentality and stick with what the manufacturers have tested and approved as fits.
