Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

This tire has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

Steel Lug Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Castle Rock Radials

Castle Rock Tread Close-Up

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Castle Rock Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - LH24VR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Castle Rock ST 225/75 R15 radial trailer tire in a load range D and it's mounted on this 15 inch copper aluminum wheel with the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is ideal for RVs, campers, and trailers. We're gonna zoom in and just first start talking about the wheel itself. The wheel is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight, and rustproof.

And this version is called the Condor series which is a split six spoke design. And you can see it's in a copper color. Now they do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front. Helps protect the wheel from any scuffs and scratches. And if you notice in the lug nut wells right here where your lug nut's tightened down they use steel inserts and that's designed to help keep the wheel securely in place on your trailer hub.

The steel inserts prevent those holes from elongating or wearing down, so eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of the log nuts. Now the wheel itself, the dimensions on it we'll start with the diameter, which is measured inside the inside straight across 15 inches. The width on just the wheel would be six inches wide. And this wheel does have a bolt pattern of six on five and a half inches. And if you wanna measure the bolt pattern on a wheel that's an even number of lugs, like in this case six.

It's pretty easy 'cause the lug holes are directly across from each other. So all you have to do is pick any one of the holes let's say this one, and measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the one right across from it. On this one it'll measure five and a half inches so it's a six lug, five and a half inch bolt pattern. Weight capacity on this or the wheel lug size we use on this is a half inch by 20. And the weight capacity on the wheel itself just the wheel is 2,830 pounds.

Now if you notice this wheel does not come with a center cap on it. We do sell those separately if you want one. You just wanna make sure to get a center cap that has the same pilot hole diameter as this opening here it's 4.25 inches. 'cause when you install your center cap, it'll go through the hole here and install in place. Now the tire on this, it is a Castle Rock radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double or double nylon plys. And then they use a nylon tread firming belt overlay around the tire to prevent tread separation. And this is a radio ply tire, so it is great for highway use. If you notice on the tread itself, if I turn this you'd be able to see the siping on the tire. Siping is what's the, those looks like cuts on the tread blocks. And what that siping does is it breaks the water up underneath the tire, breaks it away, lets it drain out improves traction during wet, snowier, icy conditions. This tire is an ST tire, which means special trailer tire has the sturdy sidewall so they can handle the heavy loads and it is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on other vehicles. The tire size which will be stamped on the sidewall, ST for special trailer 225/75 R15. The R means that it is a radial tire. The section width on this tire it's gonna be right at 8.8 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top. when it's inflated, it's 28.3. And this tire is a load range D which means it's an eight ply rated tire. Has a maximum load capacity of 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. And the tire, the trailer tires now come with speed rating stamped on the side and they stamp it with a letter designation. So usually where that'll be at is right where the size was. If you go further around you'll see here is where it says speed rating L and L will mean in parentheses it says 75 miles per hour. So this tire does have a 75 mile per hour speed rating. Now this whole wheel and tire assembly does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications and they do offer complimentary roadside assistance for two years. It gives you flat tire service available 24/7 anywhere in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico. But that's gonna do it for the review on this Castle Rock ST 225/75 R15 radial trailer tire in a load range D mounted on this 15 inch copper aluminum wheel with the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern.
