Which Weight Distribution System Works for a 2008 Ford F-150 Towing a Keystone Passport 2100

Question:

800 or 1000 pound system for an F150? We just bought a Keystone Passport 2100 travel trailer 25foot overall with a dry weight of 4300 lbs. and a tongue weight of 530 lbs. We are towing it with a 2008 F150 5.4L Crew Cab with a short bed. There is a pass thru storage in the front section of the trailer which I could see holding up to 200 lbs. of gear. Any help would be appreciated!

Congratulations on your new trailer purchase. Before we choose a weight distribution system, we want to determine the loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer and the approximate weight of any cargo you plan on loading in your truck bed behind the rear axle. This is called your total tongue weight and we will want to choose a system that can handle your total tongue weight.

I am assuming your tongue weight of 530 lbs is the dry tongue weight. Once you load all of your cargo, the tongue weight will increase. The full 200 lbs of the cargo you plan on loading will not apply to the tongue weight but a portion of it will depending on where it is stored on the trailer. I have attached a help article that explains how you can find the tongue weight of your trailer for you to check out.

If you determine that the total weight of the trailer tongue and truck bed cargo will remain under 1,000 lbs, then you could use the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System, # RP66559. If the weight will exceed 800 lbs, then you could step up to the next system, part # RP66560, which has a tongue weight capacity of 1,200 lbs.

The Reese systems do not include a hitch ball. For a 2 inch hitch ball, you will want to use part # A-90. For a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, you will want to use part # 19286. Also, I have attached a help article on weight distribution for you to look over if you are new to weight distribution systems.
