Replacement Tire & 12 Inch Wheel With 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern For 155/80R13 Tire

Question:

I need to replace the tires on a 5x8 single axle utility trailer. The tire size is 155/80r13 and the wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. There is about 2 inch of space between the top of the tire and the bottom side of the fender. The current wheels are pretty rusted so I would like to simply find a tire and wheel package. Since 155/80r13 is more difficult to find, I am thinking about going with a 175/80r13 but Im concerned about reducing the space between the tire and fender. I read one of your past questions about switching to that size and saw that the reduction would be about .6. Would you recommend going with a 12 inch wheel or should I be fine with the 175 on a 13 inch wheel? If I go with a 12 inch wheel what tire size would you recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

You generally want about 3 inches of clearance from the top of your tire to the bottom of the fender, so you definitely don't want to lose another half-inch since you only have 2 inches. So I highly recommend going with a 12 inch tire and wheel combo to gain some clearance, specifically a ST145/R12, which will net you about 3/4" of added clearance. What you can use is the following:

- Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM31199DX
