Recommended Replacement For An Atwood AT96117 RV Water Heater

Question:

I was just informed that you do not offer a replacement for Atwood #AT96117. What can I do to fix it? There has to be something that can fit with modifications.

You're correct, since Atwood went out of business Dometic has slowly been discontinuing the entire line of water heaters and switching over to their own brand, while other companies have been switching over to tankless designs. The Atwood AT96117 is approximately 12-1/2" tall x 16" wide x 18" deep so the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR48SR would be a great option to cover the old cutout hole and will outperform your current water heater.

You will most likely need to frame in the unit, which can be done with some wood or metal, depending on your preferences. You'll also need some butyl tape # AL28FJ for the back of the mounting flanges on both the unit and access door to help seal up the mounting screws and prevent water from leaking in. You'll also need to use some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 around the outside edge of the access door.

The water and gas lines are also in different locations compared to your Atwood so you'll most likely have to also modify your lines in order to connect them to the new unit.
