Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed w/ Puck System

Question:

I have a 2021 Silverado 2500 HD crew cab with a 69inch standard box and it has the oem puck system in it. Do I need a slider 5th wheel hitch for it? Thank you

As a general rule it is recommended to use a sliding hitch for truck beds shorter than 8'. There's no shortage of people who will tell you that you don't need one but that is always dependent on the nose of your 5th wheel trailer. The sliding hitch will prevent you from being in a situation where you smash the back of your crew cab no matter what type of 5th wheel trailer you are towing.

Since your 2021 Silverado 2500 has the puck system, I recommend the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # BWRVK3775. The Companion Slider has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will give you 12" of travel for making tight turns and backing.

I really like the Companion hitch because of it's 1" thick dual jaws that will give you a 360-degree jaw to kingpin contact. This system minimizes the chucking, jarring and noise that can occur when towing a fifth wheel trailer. This not only provides a more secure connection but also a quieter more comfortable towing experience.

If your trailer has a rotating pin box you will want to use the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3710. This is the non-slider version of the Companion hitch. It's base also attaches to the GM puck system and features the same hitch head.
