Why Would RV Battery Bank Die in a Day of Off Grid Camping

Question:

Hi I have a 2002 national dolphin 33’ motor home v10 Ford When we bought it 6 months ago it had two interstate batteries 81ah 12 v batteries for the coach 24f group bought brand new and a 810 CCA 145 RC battery for the coach which the service man said it was still good . We have been living in it since aug 2022 and have been traveling all over at sites with shore power. Everything worked fine until we went off grid. The new batteries went dead in 1 day , we exchanged them for two new ones because they won’t hold a charge, next day they went dead. I was told that my converter might be bad because when I started my 5500 generator they would charge back up and as soon as the generator was turned off the battery went dead. Some one told me to buy stronger batteries but I would need a matched converter to power them . I was wandering if I bought 3 matched batteries Dakota+12V 135AH dual purpose 1000 CCA starter batteries/ deep cycle performance if I would be able to have 2 for the Coach and 1 for the chassis? If that would work? Also what kind of converter would I need? The converter I think went bad and that I want to replace it with is a MagnaTek 950 series. Can this be done? Please help me. Thank you

Depending on the amperage requirements of your RV it does sound like your batteries aren't rated high enough. If you are using things like AC and other high draw components that would easily be why. It does sound like your converter isn't working either. A 60 amp converter like the Progressive Dynamics part # PD9260C would easily have enough output to charge to 100 amp batteries as well.
