Troubleshooting Powered Trailer Jack that Does Not Fully Extend or Retract When Connected to Battery

Question:

I have a Lippert 1817941 tongue jack on my 2020 Jayco Eagle HT. The jack works fine when connected to the TV or shore power. However when attempting to raise or lower the trailer with battery power only I get about 20 seconds of movement and then nothing. Ive checked the battery, which is brand new this year, and it is fully charged. Any idea of a cause? Is it time to replace?

If you are having no issues with the Lippert Jack item # LC285318 when it is connected to other sources of power it is definitely an issue with your battery. It may deliver enough power to make a light operate but it doesn't have the ability to operate the motor. Sometimes in this situation the motor may get enough power to retract but not to extend or lift, which requires more power since the jack is lifting the trailer weight not just cycling the gears.

I recommend checking your battery and all of the wiring. Ensure the connections are all good especially the ground. I don't expect you to find anything but you can rule that out before you try to replace the battery with something bigger.
