Why Does Power Wire of the Trailer Wiring Harness for 2013 Kia Sportage Need to be Run to Battery
Question:
Is it possible to use the cigarette lighter outlet in the back to get the necessary 12 volts rather than running the wire to the battery? I also want to say that I installed the hitch by myself within about 10 minutes and it was a perfect fit and very easy installation, thank you for a quality product!

The reason you want to run the power wire all the way up to battery is so that you bypass all of the delicate wiring of your vehicle. The power wire is required on trailer wiring harnesses for some vehicles because the electrical system on those vehicles cannot handle the amperage draw associated with trailer lights.
I attached an FAQ article on routing the power wire for you to check out as well.
Thanks for the feedback on the hitch install! I'm glad it went well for you.
