If I were in your shoes I would be installing the etrailer hitch receiver on my 2023 Chevy Traverse and using the aluminum Flint Hill Goods cargo basket and pick up the anti-rattle lock for some security:
- etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e56YR
- Flint Hill Goods 22" x 60" Cargo Carrier # FHG49ZR
- etrailer Anti-Rattle lock # e99047
I like this combination because the hitch installs behind the bumper cover so you still get an OEM look when you aren't using the carrier, the carrier weighs in at only 18 lbs which is considerably less than most other options, and this combination enables you to carry up to 500 lbs of cargo which will be easier to load at the back of your vehicle.
A roof option is nice because it doesn't add more to the back of your vehicle, but the weight rating would likely be 165 lbs (then you'll have to subtract the weight of the carrier itself) and it will be much more of a hassle to lift things up onto your roof. Another plus side is that a hitch can be used for many more things like a bike rack and towing a trailer.
If you need to carry a lot of stuff then I also recommend adding a 4-Way wiring harness to your Traverse and using the following Curt lights and Thule License Plate holder (you'll need to splice the Thule wiring into the Curt lights harness):
- T-Connector Wiring # C56394
- Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201
- Thule License Plate Holder # TH35JV
