Smaller Wheels and Tires For a 1971 Hunter Compact JR Trailer To Store Inside Garage

Question:

Just bought a 1971 Hunter Compact Jr trailer. It doesn’t quite fit in my garage so I’m hoping to find some smaller wheels tires to use for storage only? Currently the trailer has st185/80r13 tires. The trailer does not have brakes. Do I need to measure anything in the hub to see what might fit? It has 4 lug hubs. Even though It’s barely too tall to fit in my garage I’m hoping I can gain 4-6 inches of for clearance.

The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30153 is going to be the smallest I recommend using. These tires are 18" in diameter compared to the 24.7" diameter of your ST185/80R13 tires. This will give you a drop of 3.35". These tires are rated for 910lbs of load each and if you were to go any smaller I fear the tires would not be able to properly support the weight of your 1972 Hunter Compact Jr trailer.

The only measurements you will need to verify is that your trailer will be light enough for the smaller wheels and tires, the bolt pattern is 4 on 4" and your hub pilot is no larger than 2.5".
