Does the center cap open to access the end of the axle for greasing or do you have to remove the wheel to remove the center cap?

Yes, the center cap of the Aluminum Viking Series trailer wheel part # AX02350545FPS does have a cap on it that easily removes to give you access to the axle for greasing purposes. You would not need to remove the wheel for access.
