I have a tailgate trailer that has a fusebox and generator, but it does not have a battery. What are my options for providing power to an electric trailer jack? Thanks!

Adding a battery to power an electric jack is without a doubt the preferred method. The jack will operate more quickly, reliably and efficiently. It is possible to connect the power lead of the jack to the 7-way accessory power feed from the 7-way, but the jack will operate very slowly. If the weight capacity of the jack is exceeded, the wire feeding the 12-volt power to the 7-way could possibly overheat.
To install the battery on the trailer, use the 12-volt feed from the 7-way to maintain the battery as necessary and use shore power and a battery charger like part # CTEK56353 to charge the battery up when needed. I also recommend installing a battery isolation solenoid # PK5231201 inline on the 12-volt circuit to prevent accidentally draining the battery on the tow vehicle.
For quickest operation, and best jack longevity, we recommend using the jack with the highest capacity available. This will ensure that the jack will never be overloaded. The Husky Brute is a good choice, because of its high capacity, low-friction bearing design and because of the fact that the jack will automatically stop operating before it can be over extended or retracted.
