Can a Brake Flange Be Added To a Trailer Axle With Idler Hubs To Add Electric Brakes

Question:

I need to convert a idler axle without brake flange to electric brakes. Current axle is 93 between the hub faces and 80 between spring centers. Can I add a flange easily to the existing axle or would it be best to just replace the axle? Does etrailer sell these parts?

As I do not see that we currently have a trailer axle with a 93" hub face to hub face you are going to be best to have the brake flange welded in place. To ensure this is done properly you will want to find a trailer shop with a jig to ensure the brake flange is welded on in the correct position and straight on the axle to prevent misalignment on the axle. Here is a list of the different sized brake flanges you will need to select from.

Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Axle # 4-34
Brake Mounting Flange for 2-3/8" Round Axle # 4-35
Brake Mounting Flange for 2-3/4" Round Axle # DM60124
Brake Mounting Flange for 3" Round Axle # DM52415

If you can provide me with some more information about your axle spindle and wheels/tires I can help you determine what electric brakes and hub you will need as well.
