V-Bar Icebreakers

V-Bar Icebreakers

The V-shaped studs (also known as icebreakers, spikes, or cleats) that are built into these twist-link tire chains bite into ice, providing superior grip for a safer ride on ice-covered roads.

Installation

1. Drape the chain over the tire, making sure that the V-bars are facing out.

2. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

3. Fasten the ends of the chain together.

4. Use the cam tensioning devices that are built into the side chain to tighten. Do this by inserting the flat end of the included wrench into the slot on each cam and twisting it.

5. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Good quality and product was exactly as advertised. Fast shipping!

Far from road friendly. They are very aggressive and have great traction even on just ice.

2013 Toyota Tundra

I got a new set of tire chains for my Toyota Tundra. They were as advertised and delivered on time. I honestly haven't put them on yet, but I was very impressed with the quality. I am almost hoping that the weather gets really nasty for my upcoming hunting trip.

by:

Got here is a reasonable time.
I'm looking
forward in using them in the snow
The ones I got are for 37"x12.5x17 tires

Great set of chains, worked perfect on my 2015 Ford Explorer with 245/60 R18 tires. Watch the installation videos and give them a practice in ideal conditions, so when you’re in the elements and have to get it do e you’ll have the process down. I would also suggest to keep a small bungee cord in the bag with the chains to help give a little length to the links that hook around the backside of the tire to make it easier to grab to help pull the links to the hook. Otherwise these are awesome and great for ice or snow, and seem to be high quality.

by:

Best tire chains that I ever owned . Easy to put on the tires and they stay put.

by:

I do snow plowing with a 1 ton truck. These Titan Chains allow me to plow deep snow up grades and even when there is a thick layer of ice under the snow. The V grips really dig into the snow, ice and gravel. On paved and cement surfaces they will scar the surface, but under adverse conditions they get the job done!

by:

Needed some individual adjustments (shortening, removing one cross-link) to my tires (no complain). After that, fitted very tight and performed above expectations on an unplowed section of road from the highway to my lake cabin.

by:

Had difficulty geting chains that fit the tire correctly, some were too short, another too loose. As I was about to give up and strap snowshoes to each tire, Terri N provided great customer support and matched a set that fits perfectly, with adjustment room. These are heavy duty and well built. Thanks, Terri!

by:

I like the chains very much. Excellent design. Easy to install and with the cam tighteners they didn’t loosen up. I recently delivered lumber on an ice covered dirt road (very steep hill!) and never spun a wheel.

by:

The chains bite into hard packed snow. Was able to move an 8k trailer that probably would not have been possible otherwise. The connecting link is great. The cam wrench has a little to be desired, a tee style would provide more control for easier tightening. I had to choke these chains up to the tightest link for my stock tires, I wonder if they will be loose as the tires wear. The chains seemed very loose after removing the spider straps. They made the ride very rough at 5mph, these are definitely for off road.

These are the best chains, hands down. I live off grid in an area where people constantly lose their vehicles or get them stuck. I need these half of the year and I've never been stuck, even with multiple feet of snow and ice. For most people I don't think you'll ever need replacement parts but for people like me they're easy to repair, diagnose, tighten etc. It's worth noting that you need some grip strength to tighten the cams, I haven't had issues but if you're a woman I'd recommend the "T" shape cam tightener etrailer sells so you can torque it better. It's important to note that these work great with even super knobby tires, so don't shy away if you need this style of chain.

I can't recommend these enough, if you're a road traveler this is not the product for you but if you're on the farm, using this for a plow truck on an icy dirt road, going up snowy hills, going offroad in the snow, are camping in snowy wilderness etc this is for you. Just make sure you don't spin, because you can easily snap cross bars this way.

etrailer is fantastic, as an aside and has been super helpful.

by:

Nice chains for my plow truck. This truck doesn't go on the road - I only use it as a yard truck. Chains were easy to install. I picked up the Titan multiarm tire chain adjusters for light truck (3/4 ton). Drove with the new set up on. They will work fine - I will not get stuck. The higher profile.of the chain cleats causes the vehicle to rumble as its driven, but I can live with that. As usual, great customer support.

Ok, new to chains here. These came extremely fast over the Christmas holiday. I have a cabin in north central PA on top of a mountain. Two weeks ago I came up the mountain and it had snowed during my stay. It was absolutely terrifying going back down the dirt road, I had zero traction, took me an hour to go 2 miles, a neighbor had plowed, but it was like sledding in my vehicle. Up this week with chains with v bar, night and day, it's like driving on road with no snow, no sliding, complete control, what an amazing difference, absolutely recommend these chains. I ordered for 265/60/18 but also have a truck that is 265/75/16 that these are rated to fit, they do, but will need the spider bungee as they are sort of loose on the 16 rim.

by:

I absolutely recommend the Titan Snow Chains with cams - ladder pattern - V Bar Links. They are beautiful, cost less than half of what local venders quoted, arrived early with the free delivery. The only improvement I can recommend would be for etrailer.com to find a U.S. source instead of the one they use in China.

by:

Chains grab the road good but the tensioners bend easily if not applied correctly.

by:

Rarely use chains but these work great. Got stuck in a snow storm in Flagstaff early March. There was about 18 inches of snow over rutted ice. While you do have to commit to putting these on and you will be wet and/or dirty, there will be no issue getting through. The cam system works great at achieving a good fit the first setting but the second setting leaves no question they're in place to stay. We have a RWD E350 with 285/75/R16's and drove by many 4x4 vehicles that couldn't get out of the rutted ice and compacted snow. The V bars really cut in for that extra traction. Can't recommend enough if you need that extra performance in extreme conditions.

  • Availability of Titan V-Bar Snow Chains for 35x12.5x15 Jeep Tires
We do indeed offer Titan V-Bar tire chains that fit 35x12.5x15 tires. You'll want part # TC3835CAM, which is sold by the pair. In order to get chains for all 4 wheels, you'll need to order two sets of chains. The chains feature built-in cam lighteners, but rubber adjusters like part # TCMA2 (sold in pairs) would be a good idea as well.

  • Will Titan Snow Tire Chains # TC3835CAM Fit 12x16.5 Skid Steer Tires
I spoke with my contact at Titan Chain and he did say that the Titan Snow Tire Chains # TC3835CAM referenced in your question will physically fit and work on your 12x16.5 size skid steer tires. He said the only potential issue with using low-carbon steel chains like these with skid steer tires is the amount of force tires like these will put on them, especially when making turns. He said as long as you plan on mainly just using the chains while on soft surfaces such as dirt or snow, these...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for Tire Size 35x12-20
For your tire size of 35x12.50/20 I have three similar options for you to consider. The part # TC3835CAM which has V-bar links that help break up ice and is designed for icy conditions. The part # TC3235CAM which has twist links which will provide a smoother ride quality but won't be quite as effective in deep snow as the square link chains part # TC3235SCAM which is the option to go with for deep snow.

  • Titan Tire Chains for a 1996 Toyota Tacoma with 32x11.5-15 Tires
Tire chains # TC3835CAM are just a little too large for your 32x11.5-15 tires but we do have chain options that will fit. For your tire size you would need # TC3829CAM. Normally I would say to consult the vehicle owner's manual on the use of tire chains. But since this is a non-stock tire size you may need to speak with Toyota or a dealer directly.
