Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Has Voltage Output At All Times After Vehicle Battery Issue
Question:
I have a Primus IQ brake controller wired to a 2011 Silverado 1500 with tow package wires under dash taped up to connect to brake controller harness I’ve done this a ton of times so I know it’s wired correctly. The brake controller worked fine in this truck for a year, customer had the battery disconnected for about a week on the truck for transmission work and now the brake controller is giving constant braking power to the rear plug without hitting the pedal at all. I checked for corrosion on the rear 7 pin plug and the truck harness to said plug and it’s completely clean. Trailer has no defects and it does it on many different trailers sometimes even shows numbers when the trailer is not connected. Could the controller just have gone bad ? Maybe the relay ? The controller is probably 5-6 years old at this point and has moved vehicles. Just trying to figure it out and figured I’d see if you have any ideas ?

The controller can be bad as that sometimes does happen. You might try just unplugging it and plugging it back in though as that sometimes clears out weird internal bugs that can develop. Otherwise it would be time to replace it due to the battery issue permanently damaging it. The P2 part # 90885 is a really great option that is very reliable and has an more advanced inertia sensor than the Primus IQ.
