Below the Bed Rails 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Towing a Toy Hauler

Question:

I have 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 4X4 6 foot 6 inch bed. I will be towing a 2014 Dutchman Voltage 3950 toy hauler. I was interested in the round tube slider hitch. will this work for my application and can it be mounted using the under the bed rails?

For an below the bed puck system I recommend using the Reese # RP30074, in conjunction with the # BWRVK3370 5th wheel head. Please note that the under bed puck system is limited to 18,000 pounds and looking at the dry weight and cargo capacity of your 5th wheel this might not be rated high enough for you depending on your needs.

One nice benefit to this system is that the 5th wheel relocation wiring is supplied with this kit. If you choose another option but still need a wiring relocation kit, it is available as # C56071.

From my research, it looks like the trailer you specified has a dry unloaded weight of 15,622 pounds and has a cargo capacity of up to 4,378 pounds, so you would need a 5th wheel hitch that is rated for towing up to 20K. If you were hauling the trailer loaded to the maximum capacity.

If you would like an above the bed rails system that is rated for up to 24K you might like the Curt option of the custom install above the bed rail kit # C16420-204 and the Q24 5th Slider Wheel hitch # 16546.

The attachment point for the feet on the Reese 5th Wheel RP30083 are not compatible with under bed puck systems. This slider hitch is specifically designed for use on that above the rail systems.

I have included links to the parts referenced above for you, a couple of videos and a helpful article for your reference.
