Cargo Bag Options For 2008 BMW X3 With Moon Roof

Question:

Need a cargo carrier for our bmw x3 2008 , it has a sun/moon roof. I am wondering if there is a cargo system/bag safe to use that does not require us to by and install crossbars. We already have side bars. We are taking a road trip with our children to Disney, we are on a budget but I want something that will hold up on a very long trip in all types of weather. Also I am concerned about weight on our sun/moon roof...but we can not afford cross bars and a cargo case. Please give us your opinion and suggestions. we would like to order asap....we leave next friday. Thank you!! :

You will want to first check with your owners manual or with your dealership to find out what the roof weight capacity is for your 2008 BMW X3. With having a moon roof installed you may find that they recommend that nothing be placed on the roof surface or the moon roof of your vehicle.

There are a couple of options for roof top carriers for you. If you find that your roof can handle some weight with the moon roof I recommend the Rightline Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100S20. this is a 15 cubic ft bag that measures 44 in by 36 in by 19 inches and can be attached to the side rails on your BMW. To prevent scratching or damaging the roof of your vehicle I also recommend the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad, part # RL100650. This measures 36 in by 36 inches and sits between your cargo bag and your vehicle roof. I have attached a link to our product page for roof cargo bags that work on vehicles with a naked roof.

Another option you can consider is the Rightline Cargo Hatch Saddlebag, part # RL100B90. This is designed for vehicles that have a roof rack. It has 4 straps, two that attach to the side rails of your roof rack and two that attach underneath the back of the vehicle. A word of caution is that if you have a spoiler it may not be able to handle the weight of the cargo bag when loaded. When using this bag you cannot exceed the roof weight capacity of the vehicle. I have attached a link to a product review video for the Saddlebag.
