Is 1/32" Tolerance for Gooseneck Hitch Ball Okay

Question:

What is the diameter of the bottom that drops into the factory receiver? I bought a Curt ball and it is too sloppy. Their ball measures 2.222 and my receiver is 2.259. So it has .039 Slop.

The difference of 0.039" that you measured means your receiver is only 1/32" larger than the shank of the Curt gooseneck hitch ball. I don't know the diameter of the shank on the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2061 off-hand but I can guarantee it won't be any better than a 1/32" difference. There has to be a tolerance built-in otherwise you'll have to force the hitch ball mount into the receiver instead of being able to drop it.

If you're seeing some slop in your trailering performance then you might want to inspect the bearings on your Curt hitch ball. If those are worn down then that could cause some play while you're towing.

Let me know what you find and I can see if there are any other alternative options to help give you a better towing experience.
