Storage Instructions for Kat's Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater

Question:

I have a 1155 Kats magnetic heater. I am up in Canada and my tools are stored in a cold garage in the winter months. On the instructions it states not to store in temp below 0 F . Why is this and if I use heater on a timer how long can it be out in temp below 0 F ? Thank you for any info. My old magnetic heater only lasted a few years, storing it out in my cold shop all the time , did that cause it to go bad quicker than if I had been storing it in house?

Thanks for reaching out!

The Kat's Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater w/ Thermostat # KH1155 can take about 3-4 hours to something up depending on the size and how cold it is outside. As long as it's on and working it will be warm enough to be outside. Once the thermostat kicks it off you'll want to remove it and bring it back inside.

Kat's doesn't have an amount of time that it can be left out in temps below 0 F because it isn't supposed to be left out there. Since you left your previous heater out in the cold garage I would venture to say that it definitely didn't help the lifespan.

I recommend doing a few test runs over a weekend or when you'll be home for a day so you can track and monitor when the thermostat kicks off then simply set a timer or reminder to go get it and bring it inside once that time limit is reached.
