To troubleshoot your brake and signal lights now working I would start by checking the trailer connectors. Make sure they are not damaged and are free from debris and corrosion.
From there, I would use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check the vehicle side connector. If you have power for the brakes and turn signals then the problem is on the trailer side. Check your trailer wiring for a short and make sure you have a good ground connection.
If it is the vehicle side then I would move and test right behind the connector. If you have power here the connector is the issue. It is either damaged or possibly has loose wiring. If you're still not getting power, work your way up while checking for a short in the wiring and repair as needed.
I'm not entirely sure what kind of connector you have so it is also possible you have a bad relay if you previously installed something like the # N40975 you were looking at. This would also be true if you have the factory connector and tow package. If you can't find a replacement you can use the Curt Relay Kit # C57000.
