Recommended Replacement For A Dometic RV Air Conditioner On A 2008 CrossRoads Kingston 5th Wheel

Question:

What would be a direct replacement for a Dometic air conditioner # 59516.331? Being in Florida, would it be better to go from a 13500 BTU to a 15000 and would be a direct replacement?

If you're looking to only replace the rooftop unit and still maintain use of the thermostat inside of your trailer then I recommend going with the Advent Air Replacement RV Air Conditioner for Dometic Setup w/ Start Capacitor - 15,000 Btu # ACDOM150 or # ACDOM150B for a black shroud. These units have the 15,000 BTU rating you're looking for and are a quick swap from your Dometic unit.

To remove your old unit you'll need to take off the cover for your air distribution box on the inside of your trailer. This will give you access to the controller and bolts that hold your current unit to the roof. The rooftop unit will have a plug that runs down and plugs into the controller and looks like what I have pictured below. The new unit will plug in just like the old one.

I have run into a few where the controller is mounted inside of the rooftop unit, if this is the case then you'll need to remove the shroud and outer panel to get to it and unscrew it. You can mount it in the new unit the same way or if you have enough room in the ceiling that's also an option.

There will be a really long bolt in each corner that secures the unit to the rooftop. You can undo these and save them to use on the new unit. When you tighten them down on the new unit you'll want to make sure it's compressing the gasket enough to properly seal and secure the unit. If you start bending the metal frame of the air distribution box then you'll want to stop.

These units are pretty heavy so you'll want some extra hands to help maneuver them up to the roof and into place. Do not drag or slide them on the roof as you could damage the roof membrane or gasket on the unit.

If you have any other questions please let me know.
