Parts Needed to Install the Tekonsha PowerTrac Brake Controller on a 2013 Subaru Outback
Question:
I just put this item in my cart: Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Time Delayed Ive never towed anything in my 2013 Subaru Outback before so not sure what other items I might need. I read that perhaps I need a wiring adapter and that there might also be a mounting bracket or kit? Can you advise on a particular product that would work for me?

You may need a few additional items to tow a trailer with your 2013 Subaru Outback, however, the additional items will depend on how your Outback is equipped. The Tekonsha PowerTrac Brake Controller, # 39523, comes with a mounting bracket, so that is not needed. You will want to pick up the Tekonsha Pigtail Wiring Harness, # 7894. There are no plug-in style wiring adapters for the Subaru Outback, so the installation will require hardwiring.
The next item that you may need is a trailer connector. If your Outback already has a 4-way flat trailer connector, then I recommend using our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers, # ETBC7. This kit provides the 7-way and 4-way connector as well as all of the wire and hardware needed to complete the installation. I have attached the installation instructions as well as an installation video we made on a 2011 Outback for you to check out.
If your Outback does not have a 4-way trailer connector, then you will want to add a trailer wiring harness with a 4-way flat connector first, like part # 118467. I have attached an installation video and instructions for this harness as well.
Finally, you may want to review the two help articles I have included on brake controller installations. These help articles provide all of the necessary information on how to install and setup a brake controller.
