Curt Hitch Vs. Draw-Tite Hitch Installation on a 2005 Land Rover Freelander
Question:
Hi. Unless the photos are wrong, the Curt Land Rover 2005 Freelander hitch has the same two-hole flange on the driver side that the Draw-Tite hitch has. The Draw-Tite requires a long bolt to go through the smaller of the two holes into a 1/2 hole you drill in the Freelander frame. Why is there not a similar requirement on the Curt? Otherwise, both hitches just mount to/by the six pre-existing mounting holes. Does this mean the Draw-Tite could be safely installed WITHOUT doing the drilling for the extra bolt? What purpose would that extra bolt serve on the Draw-Tite that the Curt can do without? Does the wiring harness go through the larger hole on the flange on the driver side, where Draaw-Tite wants the bolt to go through the smaller hole?

I reviewed the installation instructions for the Curt Hitch # C13450 and the Draw Tite Hitch 75137 and they both install in the same way and use the same amount of bolts. The Draw-Tite Hitch for this model has been discontinued, so the Curt Hitch is currently the only option we offer.
You would need to install the bolt in the flange on the driver side of the hitch on both the Curt hitch and the Draw Tite hitch, I am not sure where you saw that it is not needed on the Curt hitch but you will need to do that step as well.
For a trailer wiring kit for your vehicle you would want the Wiring Harness # C59496.
