Will Towing Nose High Cause Tire Wear Problems and How to Fix a Nose High 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
My truck is an F350 and I use the Andersen hitch. To get proper side rail clearance my trailer rides several inches nose high. I’m having problems with wear on the inside of my rear trailer tires. My tech said the axle is not bent and is thinking that the nose high situation is causing the wear.Is this a possible cause And if so, what parts would I need for my Dexter axles to fit the 2 inch lift kit? Thanks

It's indeed very common nowadays that the trailer requires lifting in order to be level with the tow vehicle and have bedside clearance as tow vehicles are getting taller and taller. That said, it's pretty simple to do this with a lift kit like the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit part # RR23QX which is what I recommend. If present, this will also help fix any axle alignment issues as well. The kit raises the trailer 1-1/4" or 2-1/4". If further adjustments need to be made you can adjust the head height settings on the fifth wheel hitch or pin box.
In regards to irregular tire wear, towing nose high puts more stress on the axle so although I can't say for sure this is causing your issue, it's a good guess. That said, towing nose high creates a lot of other issues like with stability/sway so it will be a good idea to get this straighten out regardless of the tire wear issue.
