Will The Thule Canyon XT Cargo Basket Damage Factory Crossbars On My 2020 Subaru Outback?

Question:

Hi there Considering a Thule Canyon XT for my 2023 Subaru Outback. It appears this is the same basket that Subaru sells through their dealers. I looked at the instruction manual and, from what I can tell, it looks like the mounting hardware on the basket includes metal U-bars? Im concerned that this could damage the factory crossbars if it is bare metal. I have a Thule rooftop carrier and its base is covered in plastic/rubber. From the images of the Canyon basket, it appears it would be a metal-to-metal, semi-permanent mount. Can you offer any insight about this? Id be installing largely for aesthetics and occasional use. Thanks!

There is a possibility that the U-bolts used to install the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket # TH859XT onto your factory crossbars on your 2023 Subaru Outback may damage your crossbars, however the damage if any would only occur to the bottom side of the crossbars.

On top of that, this cargo casket is not going to be tightened down that tight either, only requiring 2.21 ft-lbs of torque so there won't be a lot of pressure around your bars.

Since you're using this for mainly aesthetics and occasional use, you should not have any issues with any damage.

Attached is a review video for you to check out as well.
