Thanks for reaching out!
To tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD short bed you'll need a base rail kit and the 5th wheel hitch itself. I also recommend picking up wiring like the Pollak # PK11893-11932 to install in the bed of your truck for easier access than at the bumper.
For base rails I recommend the Curt Custom Install Kit # C16418-204 because the brackets line up with holes in the frame of your truck so you won't have to do any drilling into your frame which saves you time, money on drill bits, and a sore back you would have after fighting with your frame.
Then for a 5th wheel hitch I have 2 different options depending on what you're looking for. Both options come with a roller kit on the bottom so you can have enough turning clearance on sharper turns.
The Curt E16 # 16516 is more of an entry-level hitch with a basic slide-bar jaw system. This will get the job done but doesn't offer the most comfortable towing experience out there. The Curt A16 # C16521, on the other hand, has a fully articulating torsion head and interlocking jaws for a smoother towing experience so while I do recommend going with the A16, if you're just getting into towing and just looking to get your feet wet the E16 will get you to where you're wanting to go.
