Correct Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution Systems for 7K Trailer
Question:
I have a 2014 Infiniti QX80 with tow and touring packages, GVWR is 7500 pounds. The vehicle weight with passengers and minimal cargo is 6720 pounds leaving just 780 pounds for tongue weight before exceeding the recommended max payload. The TT is 30foot tip to tail and weighs 6900 pounds. This puts me 1200 pounds under the GCWR but still at maximum payload capacity. My current WD system isnt transferring enough weight to the steering axle 3380# front and 4020# rear. I would like to see them equal or close to it unladen, the steering axle supports 52 of the weight. I am also experimenting with the cargo loading so the tongue weight is 780-850 depending on loading characteristics of the TV and TT. With this in mind, which weight of spring bars would you recommend, the 800# or 1000#? I feel like the 1000# bars would be more likely to transfer the needed weight to the steering axle, but I dont want to overload it if I can manage to get the tongue weight under 800 pounds. Thank you.

I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System part # BLU87FR which is rated for 10,000 lbs over the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System part # BLU67FR rated at 8,000 lbs for a 7,000 lb trailer. It's a good idea to select a weight distribution system that is slightly over the tongue weight of the trailer or what you think you need. This is because most people often underestimate their tongue weight and having more capacity giving you more room for error or simply more room to grow. The higher rated the system, the stiffer the springs bars will be which means more weight will be transferred to the front of the vehicle. The main thing that can hurt you by selecting a system with too much capacity is a slightly stiffer ride. That said, so long as you are not too much over this should not really be a problem and a 10k system on a 7K trailer is just fine.
