Can I Install Larger Breaker to Keep AC Unit From Tripping Breaker on RV

Question:

Hello I am experiencing breaker tripping when using my AC which is on a tbbd 20 amp breaker. My panel is a 30 amp however I am plugged into a 50 amp panel I am also experiencing my main breaker tripping which is a 30 amp breaker is it possible to replace the main 30 amp breaker with a 50 amp? Or will the wiring not support 50 amps.

It's really tempting to just install a larger breaker when faced with frustrating situations like your AC tripping the breaker every time it kicks on but going that route creates safety concerns since the breakers are there to keep excessive power from running through your electrical system. Be sure you have other things turned off prior to starting up your AC to reduce the amount of power pulling through your circuits.

If that doesn't help then what I recommend doing instead is adding the SoftStartRV Soft Start for RV AC Units, part # SSR54FR for a single AC or part # SSR44FR for 2 units, instead because it stores power for the AC to pull from on the startup. Once the AC is running it naturally pulls less power so it shouldn't be tripping your breaker anymore.

Attached is an installation video for you to check out.
