Recommended Wiring Needed For Adding 7-Way and Prodigy P2 Brake Controller On 2012 Ford Escape 4-Way
Question:
You folks provided a great write up on how to to add a 7 way to a 2012 ford Escape. I have the tow package with the 4 pin. I would like to add a 7 way but was wondering how I could wire it so I could charge the RV battery and also if possible ... We have a Tekonsha Prodigy 2 brake controller for my husbands truck. I would like to be able to use it when I pull our tent trailer. What would be different with the setup than what you described. You mentioned the one wire going to the aux on battery. My BC would probably then need the second wire running ? to same place? What would I need in the cab for a connection of brake controller? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 on your 2012 Ford Escape. This kit will connect directly to the 4-way you already have and provides you with all the wiring, connectors and circuit breakers needed to complete the installation. The wiring included will allow you to install a charge line for the battery on your RV camper and the line for the brake controller.
To be able to use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 on both vehicles you will need a Mounting Bracket # P7685 or to make swapping out easier having a Mounting Pocket # 7686 on both vehicles will remove the need to unscrew the brake controller from the mounting bracket. You will also need the Pigtail Wiring Harness # 7894 to wire in with the 7-way wiring above. I have linked an installation video below on a 2011 Escape below that shows the # ETBC7 with your Prodigy P2 brake controller.
