Weight Distribution Hitch For A 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe Towing A Riverside White Water Trailer

Question:

I would like to know which weight distribution hitch you would recommend for our current trailer and tow vehicle. The trailer is a Riverside White Water 166. The White Water trailer dry weight is 2500 lbs, and the tongue weight is advertised at 260 lbs. We own a 1996 Chevy Tahoe half ton. The Chevy weighs 4731 lbs dry weight, is 4 wheel drive, and we have a Firestone Ride Rite air leveling suspension on it. We currently own a Curt sway control, model number 17200. The trailer sits level with a 5 inch . I am thinking of using a 6 inch , and if necessary, using the Ride Rite to level the trailer if the distribution hitch does not. The distribution hitch might need a short spring bar, around 28 inches or less. Some clamping systems allow some adjustment in this area. What weight distribution hitch would you recommend for this combination? Thank you very much!

Helpful Expert Reply:

When choosing the correct weight distribution hitch you need to be as close to the weight of the loaded tongue weight of the trailer. If your weight distribution hitch is rated over or under the recommended tongue weight of the trailer it could be more hurtful than not having a weight distribution hitch at all.

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0450 has a tongue weight between 200 pounds to 450 pounds which puts your trailer's tongue weight right in the middle. The shank has a maximum rise of 6 inches and a maximum drop of 2 inches. The sway control brackets can be positioned 27 inches to 30 inches back from the center of the coupler. The system has a powder coated steel construction which is durable and corrosion resistant.

The hitch ball # 40038 is sold separately.
