Recommended SumoSprings for Trailer With 5,200 Pound Axles

Question:

I am in the process of replacing the 3,500lb axle that came on my trailer with a 5,200lb axle. Id like to add these but Im not sure if I should get the ones rated for the trailers weight class 3-5k or the axle rating 5-8k? Is the deciding factor just a matter of fitting on the existing leaf perch, or is the actual spring rate more important here? For what its worth, I run the trailer pretty heavy probably close to 4k and take it down dirt forest service roads so it experiences some rough service.

The # SS26MV for 5k to 8k axles and # TSS-107-40 for 3k to 5k axles are the same size and have the same installation requirements. The only difference between the two is the capacity. The # TSS-107-40 has a 500 lb capacity while the # SS26MV has a 900 lb capacity. Since you're moving to a larger axle and run your trailer heavy, I would choose the SumoSprings with the higher capacity. Keep in mind, adding an axle with a higher capacity and these SumoSprings will not increase the overall capacity of your trailer.
