Is There a Minimum Tongue Weight Load for the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver

Question:

I have a Deluxe Timeout Camper Trailer tongue weight around 25 lbs and a 2021 Toyota RAV4 XLE max tongue weight capacity 150 lbs and I would like to be able to carry two bikes combined weight of about 80 lbs. I am looking at using a Yakima Backroad 2 bike rack weight of 31 lbs. I have been looking at the Curt D210 ball mount with welded-on receiver and understand that if the receiver is used by itself, then the tongue capacity is halved so a no-go at 75 lbs but that if the ball mount is used in conjunction, then in this case the tongue capacity would not be affected and remain at 150 lbs. My question: is the tongue weight of the Timeout Camper Trailer large enough to get this benefit? In other words, does the Curt D210 have a ball mount tongue weight minimum?

Expert Reply:

There is no minimum tongue weight of the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver part # D210, so long as you have a trailer coupled to the hitch ball then the tongue weight capacity will not be reduced. The trailer will actually help stabilize the hitch accessory which is why the receiver capacity is not reduced but there is no tongue load minimum.
