Recommended Replacement for Atwood 82543 Brake Actuator
Question:
I have an Atwood hitch with a Hydraulic Brake Actuator P/N 82543 and looking to replace it with a new one. What product would replace the Atwood without having to modify the brake line?

The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM72VR, you were looking at, is the best option to replace an Atwood 82543. This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the EZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball.
This actuator does not come with any sort of reverse lockout feature. To reverse without the brakes locking up you will need to add an electric solenoid like item # T4748800. It's an electric lockout unlike the Atwood's manual lockout. It wires into the reverse light circuit on your truck through the trailer connector.
You will also need to switch to a 5-way for the trailer and vehicle connector using the 5-Way Trailer Side Connector item # HM37918 and the 4 to 5-Way Vehicle Side Connector item # 47515.
