Roof Cargo Box that Can Fit 38 inch Wide Roof Rack Crossbar Spread

Question:

I have a custom crossbar setup on my vehicle with 38” spread. Most yakima and thule boxes go up only to about 36” spread. Can I modify one of those boxes, by drilling or routing the bottom to accommodate a longer spread?

We have the Malone Profile18b roof cargo box part # MPG911 which can fit roof racks with a crossbar spread of up to 40 inches which would work great with your 38 inch crossbar spread. We can not recommend modifying a Thule or Yakima box to fit a wider spread. The Malone box is a really high quality box that is easy to use and install that I think you'd really like. Thule and Yakima do not have any boxes that have a wide enough spread like you are looking for.
