Replacing the OEM Brake Controller on a 2012 Ram 2500 With an Aftermarket Brake Controller

Question:

If I replace my existing oem brake controller with this unit, will I get a dashboard warning light. If so, how do I turn it off?

A dashboard warning light will turn on when you replace the Integrated Trailer Brake Module (ITBM) with an aftermarket brake controller such as the Prodigy P2, # 90885. I have attached a technical bulletin that was released concerning this issue. I have copied the solution from the tech bulletin for you below.

To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM, this will turn on a warning lamp, on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness such as the Tekonsha #3021P or Towready #22293, to install the aftermarket brake control.

To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.
