How To Find The Cold Side Of A Stop Light Switch On A 2012 Kia Sedona
Question:
Hello! Im installing a draw-tite brake controller in a 2012 Kia Sedona. The instruction require a spliced connection to the brake signal wire just above the brake pedal. Im having a difficult time reaching/identifying that wire. My question is: Can I just run a wire from the brake light assembly to the controller? I know this is the long way around, but much easier to reach. Thanks

When installing your Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller you are going to need to use the stop light switch wire, and won't be able to just run a wire to your brake controller.
I can however, help you identify what wire you're going to need to use to install your brake controller.
The universal pigtail harness # 20127 that you're using requires the RED wire on the harness to be connected to the cold side of your stop light switch.
In order to determine which side the cold side is, you will need to connect the negative lead on a multimeter # PT89ZR or test light # PTW2992 to a good ground, and probe one of the two wires at the connection. The hot side will light up the test light or provide a voltage reading, and the cold side will not.
