Recommended Tow Dolly For A 2020 Ford Escape

Question:

Howdy, I have decided the best way to tow for me is going to be a dolly. I am pretty much locking into the Kar Kaddy SS but have a couple of questions for your experts. 1. Can I tow this dolly with no car on it? 2. Can I back up this dolly with no car on it? 3. Somewhere I thought I read that due to the design of this dolly, I can not add a spare tire and the chip deflector. Can you confirm this? Thanks in advance

When it comes to using a tow dolly for your 2020 Ford Escape I recommend The Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly with Disc Brakes - Foldable - 4,800 pounds # DM9713045.

This galvanized tow dolly features hydraulic disc brakes for safe controlled stopping and folding ramps for compact storage. It fits towed vehicles with a tread width between 42 inches and 76 inches. This dolly is ideal for cars with front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions. There is a maximum vehicle weight up to 4,800 pounds.

Per demco you can tow the dolly unloaded with the following steps.(First instead of removing the pin to allow the dolly to self steer you will need to leave the pin installed. Next you will need to keep to a speed of 55 MPH max. Lastly you will need to air the tires down to around 20 PSI to keep the dolly from bouncing uncontrollably. You may need to go a bit lower if the dolly is still bouncing.) You can use tie down straps # DM03528-93 to have a spare tire on the dolly for worse case scenarios.

This steerable axle allows the tow dolly to track directly behind your RV, preventing sliding and binding of the tires. The dolly's radial tires create less rolling resistance and heat buildup than bias ply tires, resulting in longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
