Will the Rola Enclosed Carrier Fit a 2005 Toyota Camry with 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch

Question:

On the car is a hitch 1 1/4inch will that work as well as a 2inch I do have an adaptor to make it 2inch however it is straight and used for a Thule bike rack that is heavy with 4 bikes and the rack does swing out to allow access to the trunk. When using the bike rack with the 2inch adaptor it does lower than the 1 1/4inch hitch. So my question is will the Rola box work fine using the 2inch extension and I am going to use the Anti-Rattle Device -63232.

It looks like all of the trailer hitches for the 2005 Toyota Camry are Class II hitches with 1-1/4" receivers so the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Slide Out - 17 cu ft - Black
Item # H00604 will not work for you.

You would not want to use the adapter because doing so reduces the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. For example, if you started with 300 pounds tongue weight capacity and added a 1-1/4 to 2 inch adapter, the tongue weight capacity drops to 150 pounds.

Instead, I recommend the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs
Item # 63155. The weight of the carrier is about 40 pounds so remember that the weight of the carrier plus the contents in it will get subtracted from the tongue weight capacity of the hitch and vehicle.

Since you use the adapter with a bike rack remember the capacity drop and make sure that the combined weight of the bike rack and bikes does not exceed 150 pounds. The average weight of an adult bike is about 30 pounds. Four of them would be 120 pounds so the bike rack could not weigh more than 30 pounds in this scenario.
