Troubleshooting A New Dometic Refrigerator That Does Not Automatically Switch From LP To AC

Question:

I have a 1989 trailer with the Magnetek 6300A model 6332 converter/charger. I replaced the old Dometic RM2301 refrigerator with a Dometic RM2351 as recommended for direct replacement. The new fridge control board is designed to switch automatically between LP and AC, but instead it just continues to try switching with the solenoid clicking rapidly. I have a new battery, and the RV service center that installed the fridge told me that I need a new converter because my old one is incompatible with the smartfoot tech in the new fridge. The new fridge will work when manually set on LP, and when it is plugged into an extension cord, thus bypassing the trailers electrical system. Can you explain this dysfunction to me? In addition, the trailer also has an older solar array made up of 12 thick 4x4foot glass sections attached to a frame on the roof. When I do replace the converter/charger, I want to make sure that my other old lights and appliances will continue to work, and I can still use the solar I have to charge the battery. What converter/charger would work best for this application? PS. I have taken a look at the converter/charger listed in other questions, but it would sure be nice to hear the cooling fan operate, or some discussion of how quiet or noisy the fan is.

I spoke with Dometic in regards to your situation with the Dometic RM2351, and we both agreed that this is a converter issue.

If your refrigerator works when bypassing the trailer's electric, then the issue is with the trailer.

In your case I recommend upgrading your converter with the Replacement Converter for Parallax/Magnetek or WFCO RV Power Centers # PD4635V.

This is a direct upgrade/replacement for your Magnetek 6000A Model 6332, and will work with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.
