Troubleshooting A Loose Slide Out Motor Mounting Screw

Question:

the 12vdc motor is attached to the gear head aluminum housing with two #8 fine thread screws. the motor works ok, but the top screw hole has stripped threads and the screw wont grip. the motor then tilts downward and the gears dont mesh, so the drive shaft doesnt rotate. I used a 4inch C-clamp from my trucks toolbox in place of the bad screw to hold the motor tight to the housing, and the operator worked great. Can I bore a 5/32inch hole through the stripped hole, all the way through the housing, coming out through the galvanized sheet metal back plate? If so, then I can use a long bolt to attach the motor to the housing. thank you,

There is a gear in the housing of the Replacement 18:1 Venture Motor and Driveshaft with Right Angle Gear Box # LC117292 right by where you would bore through so you run the risk of it interfering with the operation of the motor.

You'd also break through without a gasket to seal up the housing so the internal components could be compromised by the elements. You'd also be voiding any warranty you have with the manufacturer so I can't recommend this route.

You can replace just the motor with part # LC295380, which would solve your issue without voiding any warranties or taking any risk.
