While the Curt Fusion Ball Mount # C45134 is made in China we do have their similar Curt Solid Ball Mount # C45312 that is made in the USA. You will need the 2" Hitch Ball # CB26C and Gen-Y Hitch Pin and Clip # 325-GH-096 to have all the parts made in the USA.

The difference is the color of the pin and clips of the two kits. The Patriot Adjustable Hitch Adapter part #PH67SR has black pin and clips whereas the #PH54FR has red ones.

What you need is a taller weight distribution shank so that you can move the head of the system up higher and get the additional height needed. For that the Curt part #C17123 which would give you additional height.

I wouldn't say one type of ball mount has more or a reputation of failing than the other. The welded on triple ball mount part #BWBMTT31004 that you referenced is very well made and would not have any issues with reliability.

There is not a maximum capacity for the Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter #PH54FR. It has a 7,000 lb towing capacity and 700 lb tongue weight capacity no matter what. We have verified this with Patriot Hitches.
