The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C13315 you were looking at is a great option for your 2021 Mazda CX-5 but I recommend going with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver item # e98902. These hitches are identical with the exception that the etrailer hitch has a matte black finish that is not only more durable but also looks better once installed. This hitch is custom fit and bolts directly to your Mazda with included hardware. You will have no problems pulling your canoe trailer with this hitch. I have linked an installation video below along with the instructions. This hitch has a 4 out of 10 on our difficulty scale and depending on your experience should not be hard to install. I do recommend having someone help you. This hitch fits all models of the Mazda CX-5 including the Carbon Edition Turbo.
You will also need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # 118746 to control your canoe trailer's lights. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your rear cargo area. You will have to remove some interior paneling to access this harness.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
