The 3,200 pounds is the rated capacity of the winch but there are other factors that can change the capacity. Static loads are harder to move than rolling loads. For example, a 3,200 pound capacity winch pulling a rolling load on a level service can handle up to 32,000 pounds.

At a 5 percent incline (3 degrees), it can handle 21,344 pounds
At 10 percent incline (6 degrees), 16,064
At 20 percent incline (11 degrees), 10,880
At 30 percent incline (17 degrees), 8,352
At 50 percent incline (26 degrees), 5,952
At 70 percent incline (35 degrees), 4,896
At 100 percent incline (45 degree angle), 4,128

The Fulton winch # F142425, since it uses a strap and is fully enclosed, and because it is made of corrosion-resistant zinc finish and has a polypropylene cover, there is nothing you will have to do to prep it. It has a 600-Hour salt spray rating. If it does get salt water on it just rinse it down with fresh water. The jack weighs approximately 15 pounds. I have linked our FAQ article on hand winches for you.

As far as winching a boat, if the boat trailer has roller bunks and a short winching distance the ratio will be 3 to 1 meaning the 3,200 pound winch can pull a boat weighing 9,600 pounds onto the trailer. For good quality carpet bunks and short distance the ratio is 2 to 1 (6,400 pounds). For regular wood bunks and/or a long distance the ratio is 1 to 1 (3,200 pounds).
