Installation of a Prodigy P2 # 90885 Proportional Brake Controller on a 2012 Chevy Suburban

To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 proportional brake controller # 90885 you will not need the additional wiring harness # 22292. The # 22292 is a plug in adapter that is designed for use with Ford F-150 trucks, and you will not need this portion for installation on your 2013 Chevrolet Suburban. You will only need the wiring that is included with the Brake controller and hard wire that to your vehicles existing wiring.

On your 2012 Chevrolet Suburban there is not a plug that is present under the dash but the necessary wires are there to install the brake controller. On your vehicle wiring that is located under the dash and above the brake pedal you will need to identify the following wires: the 12V vehicle power (red with black stripe), the outgoing brake signal (blue), the ground (white) and brake signal from vehicle (blue with white stripe).

Once you have identified these wires on your vehicle you can then proceed to install the brake controller as follows: Vehicle 12V will connect to the black wire on the brake contoller, the brake output for the trailer will connect to the blue wire on the brake controller, the ground on the vehicle will connect to the ground on the brake controller, and the brake signal from the vehicle will connect to the blue wire on the brake controller.

After the wiring connections are made with the factory installed brake wiring you can install the brake controller mounting bracket in your desired location and connect the brake controller to the plug that you just wired from your vehicle wiring and install the brake controller in the bracket.

Power will still need to be run to the brake controller and this is also included with your vehicle wiring. This is located under the hood near the fuse box and battery location. You will have to connect the wire labeled 12V aftermarket trailer feed and connect this to the positive side of the battery. After installing the brake controller, I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and verifying the functions and the connections before towing.
